Event Description: 

CISQ will be holding a workshop in Austin at the Hyatt Regency on December 8^th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm to present the latest international standards for measuring the structural quality of software and the cost of poor-quality software. 

You will hear from:

• Dr. Bill Curtis, Executive Director of CISQ – Dr. Curtis will begin with the latest ISO standards for measuring software quality attributes, such as security, reliability, and maintainability. He will also discuss architectural detection and coding weaknesses and explain the technical debt concept and how it can be measured. The discussion will end with how these measures can be integrated with flow measures into an Agile and DevOps environment.

• Herb Krasner, former Instructor in the Software Engineering Department at The University of Texas – Krasner will describe his research into the national cost of poor-quality software in the US. He will break down expenses by their different causes, such as outages, security breaches, corrective maintenance, and excessive complexity. Krasner will also discuss how organizations can take steps to reduce their share of this massive waste.

Dr. Curtis will end the workshop presentations with a vision of how evolutionary improvement in software engineering practices coupled with advances in software measurement can change an organization’s balance sheet. Participants will then have ample time to ask questions and discuss issues.
